What does a nose retainer do?

 

 

Nasal retainers may be used after nasal reconstruction to keep airways open, maintain and support tissues, and resist against tissue contraction. Nasal reconstruction after wide tumor excision or posttraumatic defect may be a multistep procedure, thus requiring high patient compliance.

 

How long should I wear a nostril retainer?

 

 

After the secondary operation, the nostril retainer is used all the time for six months. From six months, the nostril retainer is used only at home until facial development is complete.
 

How do you clean a nasal retainer?

 

 

Use a separate toothbrush to gently brush your retainer. You may also use a small amount of gentle dish soap to clean your retainer. Use a cotton swab. You may also use a cotton swab to clean the nooks and crannies of your retainer.

How to insert a nasal stent?

 

 

Place a small amount of lubricant on the nasal stents to ease insertion into the nostrils. Cut steri strips to size before inserting into nose. Gently insert the nasal stent and tape the two wings over the top of the nose.
